چکیده

The Visual Thesaurus (VT) is a novel query approach that overcomes the lack of starting example image and provides a panel of visual patches summarizing all the regions of the database. The user composes his query by arranging these patches according to his mental image. The retrieved images are displayed with respect to their photometric descriptors and their spatial configuration. This paper presents a novel approach to model the spatial relations between the composed visual patches. In this paper, we define the Weighted Angle Spatial Histogram (WASH) that jointly uses the (ir)regularity and angles between regions of interest to determine their relative spatial position. WASH has shown great robustness to region shape and scale in the image because it handles segmented regions as a composition of relevant and minor subregions. Moreover, using WASH descriptor allows efficient query composition from the Visual Thesaurus since retrieved images are constrained with the photometric and geometric attributes of selected visual patches. We tested our approach on generic database, and we compared it with other state-of-the-art techniques.

Logical Query Composition from Local Visual Feature Thesaurus

We present a novel framework for intelligent search and retrieval by image region composition. Unlike traditional Query-by-Example paradigm, no starting example image is used : the user provides its mental representation of target image by means of a region photometric thesaurus. It gives an overview of the database content in the query interface. Unsupervised generation of this thesaurus is ba...

Developing a BIM-based Spatial Ontology for Semantic Querying of 3D Property Information

With the growing dominance of complex and multi-level urban structures, current cadastral systems, which are often developed based on 2D representations, are not capable of providing unambiguous spatial information about urban properties. Therefore, the concept of 3D cadastre is proposed to support 3D digital representation of land and properties and facilitate the communication of legal owners...

Visual Preferences of Small Urban Parks Based on Spatial Configuration of Place

The importance of small urban parks (SUP) in mega cities has been accepted as an essential component of urban lung and restorative settings. As urban population in the world increases and the cost of maintaining large parks escalates, urban authorities are shifting their attention to creating and maintaining smaller urban parks. However, SUP may present a different ambience due to their locatio...

What's beyond query by example?

Over the last ten years, the crucial problem of information retrieval in multimedia documents has boosted research activities in the field of visual appearance indexing and retrieval by content. In the early research years, the concept of the “query by visual example” (QBVE) has been proposed and shown to be relevant for visual information retrieval. It is obvious that QBVE is not able to satis...

Adaptive Visual Regions Categorization with Sets of Points of Interest

The Query By Visual Thesaurus (QBVT) paradigm has strongly contributed to the visual information retrieval objective when no starting example is available. The Visual Thesaurus is a representative summary of all the visual patches in the database. Its reliable construction helps the user expression a ”mental image” by composing the visual patches according to the details he has in mind. In this...
